Destiny 2 Gunsmith Bow

Destiny 2's Leviathan's Breath is an Exotic quest for those who have purchased Shadowkeep's first expansion pass, Season of the Undying.

Released on weekly reset on October 22nd, 2019, unlocking this Exotic Bow is perhaps the shortest Exotic quest in the game to date.

That said, and you'll probably need some pointers of where to go for the first quest step - finding Banshee's hidden workshop entrance location.

On this page:

How to get Leviathan's Breath in Destiny 2 in brief

Here's a quick rundown of the steps needed to obtain Leviathan's Breath:

  • Find Banshee's hidden workshop entrance location
  • Complete a handful of Gambit matches or Strikes
  • 75 precision kills against Vex or Cabal using Bows
  • Complete a special version of The Arms Dealer strike
  • Visit Banshee-44 and the hidden workshop a second time

When the above steps have been completed, Leviathan's Breath is all yours.

Thanks to Datto on YouTube for helping flesh out the above steps:

Where to find the Banshee's hidden workshop entrance location in Destiny 2's The Back Way

First, you need to visit Banshee-44 in the Tower. This is also known as the Gunsmith vendor, who you'll find next to the Cryptarch in the Tower.

Banshee-44 will give you the quest step 'The Back Way', which requires you to find the hidden entrance to Banshee's workshop.

The hint is you need to start in the Hangar, which is the area to the east of the Tower - you can get there by turning left as soon as you load into the Hangar's central fast travel point.

In the Hanger, you need to enter a ventilation shaft that's above where you enter, though to get there you need to turn left, go up the staircase in the far back left corner, taking you to an upper level.

Take the walkway leading towards the centre of the Hangar, then drop down the edge and leap over to the area above the entrance.

Here you'll find a giant ventilation shaft glowing blue. Head inside, follow it round right into a tighter shift, and you'll exit in room bathed in pink light.

From here, take a hard left through the doorway, where you'll enter an area named 'Courtyard'. There is a hole in the ground here taking you to another ventilation shaft - drop down through it.

Take a few steps to the other side of the shaft, then leap up at the end to appear in another room, with a bot investigating plans at a table.

Head through the doorway on the far left side, down the short set of stairs into a shadowy storage room with stacks of shelves on your left.

Look above the stack of shelves in the middle of the room to see a ventilation shaft in the ceiling. Climb up these shelves and enter the shaft.

Start exploring and you'll soon drop down. Turn around, walk to the far end and take a left at the corner where it's bathed in orange light, to reach a walkway with two small platforms either side and another walkway above.

Use the side platforms to reach this upper walkway, then leap into the next passage high up in the wall.

Inside here, drop down, then travel to the far end of the shaft to emerge in the hidden workshop.

There is the prompt 'Open Door' in the back left corner, which will complete this stage of the quest.

If it's easier, the following video walkthrough can help:

With Banshee's workshop found, you have to visit Banshee once more (it's easier to fast travel back to the main Tower area than work your way back) to start the next part of the quest, Intro to Safecracking 101.

How to complete the rest of the Leviathan's Breath quest in Destiny 2

Once you have visited Banshee's hidden workshop, then acquiring Leviathan's Breath quest takes the form of what you'd expect from an Exotic quest in Destiny 2.

First, you need to complete either Gambit matches or Strikes as part of Intro to Safecracking 101. Gambit Prime and Nightfalls give you more progress - reported to be 35% and 50% respectively, with other activities ranging between 20% and 25%, according to StompySmashBro on reddit - though we found three Gambit Prime matches still left us short, suggesting wins might help.

Either way, Gambit Prime matches tend to be the fastest of all these activities, so we're recommend completing these until the quest is complete.

After that, you have to get a total of 75 precision kills with Bows against Vex or Cabal enemies.

As Datto mentions in the video earlier in the article, Vex kills are more difficult to pull off, so it's worth focusing on Cabal, who can be found at the Leviathan raid (remember you can visit solo, where there are lines of Cabal lined up ready to be taken down) or various Lost Sectors, such as The Conflux on Nessus.

After that, you'll have to complete a special version of The Arms Dealer strike, which you'll find on the Director in the EDZ. This is at 900 Power level, so may require some levelling up before you can take it on, but does reportedly feature matchmaking - so don't expect to run it solo even if you're not in a Fireteam.

Here's a playthrough of it by Six and Star's Duo Channel to see what you're up against:

The Dawning and Moments of Triumph return for another year! Elsewhere, we've recently had the Bungie 30th Anniversary, which adds the Grasp of Avarice dungeon, Strange Coins, new Exotics including the Gjallarhorn and Forerunner. There's more to come in the Season of the Lost roadmap, but until then, we've seen the Wayfinders Voyage, the Astral Alignment activity and finding Atlas Skew, Trivial Mystery, Enigmatic Mystery, Ascendant Mystery, Data Cache, Parallax Trajectory and Ascendant Anchor locations. Elsewhere, we've seen new Nightfall weapons such as the Uzume RR4, Plug One.1 and Hung Jury SR4. Other recent new features include transmog and materials Synthstrand, Synthcord and Synthweave, the Splicer Gauntlet and Decrypted Data used to upgrade it.

Once that's complete, we're almost there. Visit Banshee back in the Tower, then return to the hidden workshop entrance location one final time, where you'll receive Leviathan's Breath. Congratulations!
